How does sweating affect weight loss?

Okay so today, I was told that if you wear heavy coats and sweaters and tons of layers (to the point where you look like Ralphie's little brother in "A Christmas Story") And go to bed and cover up with tons of blankets this can make you lose 2 pounds, my boyfriend who is a wrestler said that he was going to do it for a week to go down a weight class, but will it actually work?

Sweat is only a temporary weight loss.

Even if it did work this doesn't seem healthy. You could die of heat stroke. I just loss weight the old fashioned way.
Reply:Sweating makes you lose water weight thats all. Its dangerous if you lose too much and gain it back real quick though. LOL Ralphy's lil bro=)
Reply:You will lose weight, in the sense that you will way less. But it's not breaking down fat or anything like that. Those sort of things help with boosting circulation and preventing water retention. It's the same effect as having one of those mud wraps. A much safer way to do it would be to wrap your stomach in cling wrap under your clothes for a day. I wouldn't do it every day though, you'll get dehydrated.
