Does sweating burn calories and make you lose weight?

Even if I sweat while not doing excercise? I heard that somewhere and it sounds like a myth, but anyone have any info on that?
Does sweating burn calories and make you lose weight?
MYTH. Here in South Texas, you can sweat in a rocking chair. To lose weight you have to burn calories. All you lose while sweating is water.

Change your lifestyle and do this forever. Drink lots of water, walk, run, or swim an hour every day except 1 then do stretching and upper body toning. Eat fruits %26amp; vegetables.

No alcohol

Does sweating burn calories and make you lose weight?
I am not sure about sweating per say but I do know that kissing does
Reply:I think yes.
Reply:yes it does......great aint it??lets all get sweaty and smelly to lose those pounds!!
Reply:no that is not true. u burn calories when u move ur muscles. when its hot outside and you sweat, u certainly dont lose calories. sweat is merely a liquid that comes out of your pours that cools u down.
Reply:i think it isa myth i think you have to be doing something for you to actually loose weight. IF you just sweat and lost weight while doing nothing my husband would be looking anirexia right now.
Reply:Sweating does NOT burn calories and does NOT make you lose weight. It will help you lose water wieght, but after you drink some water, you gain it again, so this wieght isn't even considered wieght or fat at all.

Sweating is just the release of all of the fluids and toxins and stuff in your body while you exersice. Instead of being the cause of losing weight, sweating is the effect of exercising. You can sweat all day long and all you will accomplish is dehydration.
Reply:It doesn't have that much great effect as exercising.

It burns only a little amount without exercising.

you can wear a sweat suit while exercising,it will help burn a little more calories and help lose weight faster.
Reply:No, sweating does not burn any extra calories. This can be explained by the body's complicated system of homeostasis. The body lowers the metabolism to sweat, which negates any calories lost through the actual process of sweating. However, if you are sweating because of exercise or because you're nervous, that's different. Yes, even being nervous or restless burns calories.

Shivering, though, does burn calories. When this occurs, your body actually speeds up your metabolism to allow shivering, which causes you to burn calories not only from shaking, but also from the increased metabolism. That is why ppl do not feel hunger as much when they're hot, but feel it at a much greater degree in the cold.
Reply:Nope...Sweating does not burn calories..

Being in a cold environment burns more calories than being

in one that causes you to sweat..

Even with exercise...
Reply:Although things like exercise make you sweat AND lose weight, sweating in itself does not help you lose weight. You can see some weight reduction after profuse sweating, but that's just loss of water from your body. You drink water to quench your thirst, and you 'gain' back your 'lost' weight.
